Once the Industrial Centre of Spain, Bilbao is an urban success story of the Basque Country and a hidden gem of the North of Spain. This small town rose to fame with the Architectural marvel, GUGGENHEIM MUSEUM, by the famous architects Frank Gehry. Bilbao surprises you with a mix of modernism and tradition with a sleek futuristic tram running on one side of the town while the old school pastel buildings standing on the other side fronted by a river.


A Museum of modern and contemporary art, launched in 1997, cant be missed in Bilbao and is the highlight of the city. Designed by world famous architect Frank Gehry, the metal facade with its innovative design expresses groundbreaking architecture

Mount Artxanda

This small mount towards the north of the town gives a complete 360 degree view of Bilbao and can be accessed by Funicular (ropeway) which is an experience in itself. On the mount you are welcomed into a large park with some cafes and restaurants to treat yourself while enjoying the view

Casco Viejo

Also known as the old town, gives the old world charm through its charming streets and colorful buildings. Must visit the Gothic Catedral de Santiago to witness its beauty, and Plaza Nueva for drinks and food, mainly Pintxos (their local food).

Gran Via

The Gran Via of Bilbao is also called Don Diego López Haroko Kale Nagusia, starts from Plaza Circular all the way to Indautxu. you can all luxury and regular fashion brands here. For fashionistas, take a sneak peek in Choses De Femme which sells a variety of high-end shoes, bags, and accessories from labels like Miu Miu, Givenchy, and more

Zubizuri Bridge

Another modern symbol of the city, is the Zubizuri Bridge or the white bridge spanning the river. This fish skeletal looking metal bridge was designed by the famous Spanish Architect Santiago Calatrava whose wonders can be seen in Valencia as well! Take a stroll here

Metro of Bilbao

Bilbao was seeking to come out from the 'industrial' status it had acquired in the 1990's. In 1995 came the Bilbao metro system designed by another famous Architect, Norman Foster, who has inspired millions including me. The entrance of the metro stations through glass tunnels and the way down to the station is an architectural experience not to be missed by those who appreciate art and aesthetics. 

Mercado De La Ribera

The Ribera market is the largest covered market of Europe & is built in the shape of a boat standing next to the Nervión River in Bilbao. With its Art deco windows overlooking the river, this market is the local's paradise for fresh fruits, vegetables and seafood shopping along with serving the local delicacies and drinks.
